Greed Quotes :: Finest Quotes

We are all born brave, trusting and greedy, and most of us remain greedy. Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed. Greed is a fat demon with a small mouth and whatever you feed it is never enough. It is a time not just for compassionate words, but compassionate action. Unless one extricates oneself from the clutch of greed, one will not free himself from the fetters of sorrow.

The greed of gain has no time or limit to its capaciousness. It has pity neither for beautiful nature nor for living human beings. Greed is all right, by the way I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself. Curst greed of gold, what crimes thy tyrant power has caused.

The lusts and greeds of the body scandalize the Soul; but it has to come to heel. Be glad that you’re greedy; the national economy would collapse if you weren’t.

Altruism is when we act to promote someone else’s welfare, even at a risk or cost to ourselves. Though some believe that humans are fundamentally self-interested, recent research suggests otherwise: Studies have found that people’s first impulse is to cooperate rather than compete; that toddlers spontaneously help people in need out of a genuine concern for their welfare; and that even non-human primates display altruism. Evolutionary scientists speculate that altruism has such deep roots in human nature because helping and cooperation promote the survival of our species. This does not mean that humans are more altruistic than selfish; instead, evidence suggests we have deeply ingrained tendencies to act in either direction. Our challenge lies in finding ways to evoke the better angels of our nature.

COMMON CAPITAL

In early 2013, the Big Lottery Fund and Big Society Capital commissioned a report into the future of social investment, with particular regard to the infrastructure that supports the market. This report – Angels in the Architecture – explores the evolution, characteristics and infrastructure of other markets and draws lessons which could help the development of social investment. This includes acknowledging the time it takes for an emerging market to reach maturity, what is meant by ‘infrastructure’, the role of subsidy, the significance of governance, ownership and business models, tensions between social and financial value, the role of tax incentives, the need for honesty about return expectations and the importance of cultural and political factors.

50 Sir Winston Churchill Quotes to Live By

In his 90 years as a soldier, journalist, prolific author, politician and statesman during the first half of the 20th century, Winston Churchill had many opportunities to influence world events, and while opinions on his various successes and failures can be steeply divided, his was a hard-won wisdom, which he expressed with great pith and wit. Being a natural statesman, and a great writer to boot, he was very good at putting that wisdom to use, and there are so many quotable examples from his various speeches and public comments that it’s easy to compile a list of his most inspirational thoughts, the ones that would apply to a multitude of situations, to be issued on Winston Churchill Day. The tricky bit is choosing which ones to leave out.
